Background of the Study
Deforestation, the large-scale removal of trees, has been a significant environmental issue in Nigeria, particularly in Bauchi Local Government Area, Bauchi State, where rural communities heavily depend on forest resources. Deforestation leads to the destruction of vital ecosystems, including watersheds that regulate water supply to local communities. Trees play an essential role in maintaining water quality and ensuring consistent water availability, as they prevent soil erosion, regulate groundwater recharge, and filter water. 1.5 Research Hypothesis

• H3: Implementing afforestation and sustainable land management practices can improve water source sustainability in Bauchi.
1.6 Significance of the Study

The study will focus on Bauchi Local Government Area, particularly rural communities that are directly impacted by deforestation. Limitations include challenges in obtaining comprehensive data on water quality and limited access to remote communities due to infrastructure constraints.
